About Mike Hower
Mike Hower, Founder & Principal Consultant
Mike Hower is the founder and principal consultant of Hower Impact, a sustainability communication consultancy that helps companies translate sustainability strategy into compelling narratives—through strategic advisory, content development and delivery, sustainability reporting, and corporate training. Based in Northern California, between the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento, he brings a rare perspective to his work: he’s been both the journalist scrutinizing corporate claims and the strategist helping companies communicate them effectively and authentically.
He began his career writing hundreds of articles covering sustainability strategy, social impact, supply chain engagement, and climate policy for GreenBiz (now Trellis) and other leading publications. He later worked at Edelman and other organizations, advising Fortune 500 companies on sustainability communication and developing best-in-class sustainability reports, before founding Hower Impact in 2023.
Mike hosts The Sustainability Communicator podcast and writes regularly about sustainability communication on LinkedIn and through his newsletter. He also speaks at industry conferences on topics including greenwashing risk, regulatory compliance, and effective stakeholder engagement.
He holds an M.A. in Strategic Communication from The George Washington University. When he’s not working, Mike can be found exploring California’s trails with his golden retriever, Lincoln, or planning his next adventure with his family.
